Has anyone replaced fuel injectors? I have a 91 SR5 auto and it wont idle well ,I think i need to check my in jectors. How tuff is it to do? It has 200,000 on it. Do the injectors typically need replacing?

 

I'm also interested. I'd rather do it myself if it isn't too hard to do.

 

basically all you have to do is pull the vacume hoses, after you do that you unbolt the intake manifold and the fuel pressure reg,and mabey 1 or 2 things more on the auto, you then relive the fuel pressure using the fuel pressure relief bolt, then you just unplug the injectors and pull out the fuel rail, drop in the new ones wtih new seals and away you go. its pretty easy, just dont lose your bolts and take your time. and dont drop the injectors, that kinda sux.....

Where's this fuel pressure relief bolt? I've done relieved the fuel pressure before by disconnecting the fuel pump by unplugging the connector by the passenger feet and then starting the truck.

What did you do to keep from getting the vacuum hoses mixed up?

How much time would you say is involved in a project like this?

Is it really that easy to do? Maybe you just make it sound easy. I dunno.

Might want to check all the other stuff before assuming it is the injectors causing your truck to idle poorly. Change all the tuneup stuff (air, fuel, plugs, wires, pcv, etc....) and clean the throttle body first (usually lots of carbon buildup in there). Replacing all the injectors is a reasonable job and can be big $$$$ so do the cheap stuff first to make sure that is the problem.

 

First do a compression check. If it in spec, great. If not then perform a cylinder leak down test to find where the compression is leaking from. That could be your idle problem.

Once you verify the compression is good, get a Motor Vac carbon depletion service done. It will clean the injectors, intake valves, and combustion chamber all right on the truck.

Rarely do the injectors need to be replaced. Cleaning them ususally solves most problems with them, and much cheaper. You are likely going to pay about $150 for each injector at the dealer.
