Fuel Injector Removal

Fuel Injector Removal
Hey guys, do I have to remove the plenum in order to remove the fuel rail and injectors from the passenger side of the motor? I just need to replace the #3 injector and I'm hoping that I can get away with not having to disassemble the top half of the motor. Thanks.

nope. to make it easier, unbolt the throttle body but leave the coolant hoses attached. Now you should have plenty of room to get to the injectors. Make sure you lube the orings when going back together so you dont pinch one

Oh man, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. Can I use some motor oil to lube the o-ring or should I use something else? If motor oil wont work, do you have any recommendations? Thanks a lot.

make damn sure you dont pinch an oring, might as well replace them for that matter. My mechanic reused one and it broke and sprayed gas everywhere on the way home before i realized the gas smell wasnt from the paper mats he left on the floor...

Thanks guys. Hmm, I used some mobile 1 5w30 on the o-ring. I did it before I got the message not to. We'll see if it works out okay. I also tried to make sure not to pinch any of the o-rings. I'll make sure to check for any fuel leaks for the next couple of days. Thanks a lot for the help guys.

Anyway, a friend of mine has informed me that motor oil is hard on rubber. Do you guys think that using motor oil on the injector o-ring will eventually cause problems for me?

I was told to use motor oil to lube the o-rings. i plan on taking the injectors out of an '85 lebaron gts, so that's what i was planning on doing when replacing the o-rings.
also, don't we lube the oil filter gasket (rubber) with motor oil...? i sure do!

Yes this is true, but an oil filter gasket only has to last 5,000 or so miles. I hope that my fuel injector o-rings last much longer than that. A friend of mine informed me that the detergents used in motor oil can be hard on rubber, and that is why one should not use motor like I did. Hopefully they are not that hard on rubber. I really don't know much about the subject though.
