It depends on how dirty the gas was you've forced through it over the years.

That sounds like a very high price, try here:

I know that's a vague answer, but you really never know when you might get a dirty tank of gas and of course octane has little to do with it.

I've been changing mine pretty often, maybe about every 30,0000 miles. That's probably more often than needed, but I don't like to have problems on vacation and this is our vacation truck.

so i guess since i am close to 80k miles on the 2002 i should change it haha.. its going to get the following

-diff gear oils and tcase oil change
-seafoam treatment- then in two weeks change the plugs and fuel filter and oil
- grease shafts
- not sure how to clean the maf sensor

question- to clean the maf on an 02 3.4. dont you just unhook the intake at the air filter and just spray in? just curious

Just unscrew the MAF (2 screws), pull it out and spray the wire thingy with electrical contact cleaner. Don't touch it with anything, just spray.

I guess you could unhook the intake, but that seems harder to me.

I should mention Toyota used to call the fuel filter a "lifetime filter" IIRC and I guess it would be in a perfect world with perfectly clean gas everytime you filled-up. But, I've been stranded once in my life by a tank of dirty gas. IIRC it was about 1978 somewhere in Nevada.

yeah well 30$ every 50k to 100k miles is not much considering its somewhat easy to replace and may save a few bucks in fuel over the course of a year or so.. do you know the link where it shows how to unscrew the maf??

Napa gold was like $15. or $20 bucks if I remember correctly. Somone did a writeup a long time ago and showed the inside media unraveled at like 70K and it wasn't pretty. It takes ten minutes and less than 20 bucks. Just change it. It's better than having to do a pump later on down the line.

Go with the Toyota feul filter. Contact Evan @ Northridge Toyota. YotaTechers get the 25% discount. When possible always replace OEM with OEM. There's a reason why our trucks live for so long.

It just depends what you want to spend and quality I suppose. However, on the other hand Toyota says you never have to replace them. If that was the case why does pretty much everyone have them in stock?
