wow that was fast, hahaha. yea I know there are alternatives, I just wanted a stock look, like the rear mug guards look like. Ill go to my dealer tomorrow and ask, I just didnt really want to buy from them, too expensive.

 

A set of mud flaps off a 1st gen fit... I had them on my 2nd gen for a while till I went to a 33 and they rub and got caught....

I don't think that a factory front flap exists for your style of flare. Unlike the textured black flares on other 4Runners, yours taper inward - rather than ending with a horizontal cutoff. The flaps shown on JA's page mate with the factory black flares - which are not the same as yours. You will find that none of the factory "splash guards" are worth a crap if your are interested in keeping your rocker areas free from chips, etc.

Those mudguards are just what I'm looking for. Could you give me more specific info on them? What year 4x4 v6 Taco were those mudguards for? You don't have a p/n do you? Thanks.

I believe I asked for a set of front mudflaps for a '00 or '01 4WD V6 Tacoma. I do not have part numbers but that info alone should allow you to get the correct flaps. They are probably the same from '96 to '02 or so Tacomas.

Thanks for the info, Andreas. I actually went to the stealership this weekend and asked about front mudguards for my '99 4Runner, as well as for an '01 4x4 v6 Taco. They didn't have either ones in stock but they were able to show me some pics of each. The ones for the 4Runner were real small and I don't think that they would do the job as well as the ones for the '01 Taco, the ones you have, which were much bigger. But I thought I'd do some more research before ordering them...

 

My '01 came with the 'splash guards'. These were not effective in any way. The Taco flaps have done their job and have been worth every penny with respect to a chip-free rocker area. Not to mention the truck simply stays cleaner longer as little or no other stuff makes it's way on to the sides of the doors.

brake dust can be from the pads you used, my buddy put cheap ones on before I bought his rig, tons of dust right after cleaning. I replaced with OEM and no more dust, same rotors...

 

I'm using ceramic pads I got from Brakes Plus and no dust here either.

I have the OEM front flaps that match the unpainted thinner OEM SR5 flares and while they look nice and fit right up to the flares I'll be searching for something bigger (I'm gonna look at the Tacoma's) since like stated earlier is the tire coverage and lenght could be a little bigger.

 

What about getting a sheet of Industrial floor matting( Harborfreighttools, thickness up to 1/2 inch) and cutting out the size YOU want or need instead of buying something universal ? Much cheaper and you can be as creative as you want. Think about it- cut what you want, whatever size, etc. Then get a tire white letter marker and putting whatever print if any(you can raise the writing with a soldering pen )...... there i go again with the redneck ingenuity...... Yes, i can squeeze 5 nickels to make a quarter

 

While there is something to be said for universal fit and redneck ingenuity, especially when it comes to price, I am looking for a "factory look" for my front mudguards but I also want it to be functional. I think I'm gonna order those for the Taco, I'll let you guys know how it works out.

 

FYI- I bought a set of pickup front mud flaps for the front of my 2nd gen 4runner from a yotatech member. The mounting holes look the same, but I will have to fit them and see. If it all works out I will post pics. I understand the backing up and "removing" mud flaps, I did this on the old P/U. But after removing the running boards, the truck gets real messy....real quick. It is cool to watch rooster tails of mud fly up the drivers window though....

 

I just did something similar to " midiwall " got the idea from one of the tech write ups here on Yotatech... Used the Grobloski Long Life Duraflex Mud Flaps from Pep Boys-- just $6.99--can't go wrong... Pretty decent looking for the price...
