Front Heat Problems!!

The FSM refers to them as servomotors, even if "manual":
http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1996/SIL/...eauni/comp.pdf
So while I understand that this is contradictory, I'm just going to call them servomotors. They may or may not provide closed loop feedback, but they do provide position feedback.
There are supposed to be 2 temp sensors but I didn't spot those, any help in locating them is appreciated.
Unfortunately I don't have any temperature display, or do I? Will the odometer give me a temp?

I wish I had cable actuated flapper doors! Why replace a design that works, huh?
First, I think it's best to know what you'll be looking at (for the 2001 "manual A/C" climate controls). Let's list the motors and what they do:
1. Driver's side footwell, this is a multi-position "air out" motor that directs the air to each vent, depending on switch position.
2. Passenger's side footwell, underneath stereo. Variable position "air/temperature mix", depending on slider position.
3. Passenger's side footwell, above fan. 2 position motor that will pull air from inside or outside the vehicle, depending on if the Recirculation button is depressed.
On to pics, each motor should respond in some way to the climate controls.
1. Switching the Vent position should have this shift the levers each time:
2. Air/Mix motor. Sliding the temp knob, should make this arm rotate about 45 degrees:
3. Recirculation motor. Press the Recirc. button and this flapper should move towards the engine. Turning it off will cause the flapper to move towards you, shutting off cabin air:

And the mystery with the Temp Mix Motor, the resistance checks are reverse of what the should be according to the manual:

Hi-
After opening my servo motor and turning the gear I found that my arm was still a few teeth off and not giving me full heat. This is of course because with the gears stripped there is no telling what what the exact position of it is supposed to be only what it was when you took it apart. Just something to be aware of. As long as its close a little bit of trial and error will get it adjusted right.
My linkage also seemed a bit tight to turn by hand. Has any one had their motor fail a second time? I will try lubing the heater control cable but fear its not going to be enough and my motor will just strip out again.

Nat2500 - thanks man. Fixed my ride in about 1/2 hr. Just bought my 4Runner over the weekend in Nashville, and had to ride 8 hrs back with an incessant clicking and hot air blowing on me. This was a great little tutorial! Happy trails. - C

Yes! My motor is clicking again!! I disconnected the cable from both ends and it moves fine. I reconnected it under the hood and it still moves fine. I believe the problem is with the silver slidey spinny pieces under the dash where the motor arm attaches. I was hoping to find a solution in this thread because I have no idea what to do
