P.S. To answer your question most people(99%) will never do what I'm doing to my 4runner, because most won't ever go any bigger than 35" tires, which doesn't require the amount of trimming that I'm doing.

Well, I got the driver's side completed today, and I'll pictures tonight. I hope to get the rear passenger side welded in today and finish up the front passenger side tomorrow.
I also installed my ARB compressor minus all the wiring since I had the driver's side front fender off. It was a good time to do it. I put it in between the battery and the body in the little pocket there up out of the way. I'll probably have to fab a tray extension once I install the locker stuff onto the compressor, but at least this way it's well hidden.

Here's some pics from today:
Here's the driver's side completed with the stock front bumper trimmed. It will be coming off at some point, but I figure it ought to look decent between now and then, because who knows how long that will be.
Here's where I decided to install the ARB compressor:
Tomorrow I hope to finish the passenger rear and passenger front.

Here's some pics from today:
The only one left is the passenger front, which I'm not really looking forward to, because I snagged it on a tree limb and it's bent all our of whack.
