Fabtech Coilovers- Standard vs. Performance?
Anybody know the difference between the standard and performance coilovers that are available for the 4-runner? The standard are about 100 bucks cheaper than the SAWs. It seems like everyone on the board is running SAW's with a couple exceptions, but I'm not sure if its just a case of "when in Rome..." I know that the Fabtech coilovers had some issues a while back, but that they have since been resolved. Any comments/opinons?

Howdy!
I am running the FabTech performance coil-overs. It is my understanding that the difference between the standard and performance is that the standard are just adjustable coils over a standard shock, whereas the performance line is a re-buildable, re-chargeable set up.
I’ve seen both the Fabs and the SAW’s. They are both really nice! If the price point gets close enough, I would probably go for the SAW’s. I got a screaming deal on my Fab’s and couldn’t pass them up. I love them! I have beat the crap out of them and have no complaints. You can’t go wrong with either the FabTech performance setup or the SAW’s.
Oh, and as far as the problems with the Fab's; it's my understanding that the lower bushing would blow out in no time. That has been corrected.

Hey Gene,
I think we've had a similar discussion before about fabtechs in general, but I was confused when I saw the two different types, without a very good description about the difference. The performance fab techs are actually more expensive than the SAW's by about 100 coconuts, so it sounds like SAW is the way to go. Thanks for the info!

I've used both the Fabtech and SAW lifts. I have an article about both here:

The Fabtech coil-overs that I had are now called their "performance" lift.
You'll get a higher quality lift for less money if you just stick with the SAW's.

The basic "coilovers" are a threaded sleeve into which you insert a standard shock, then secure it in place with some set screws. Pretty hokey...
The "performance" kit consists of rebuildable shocks with a threaded body, just like SAW's.
Having run both the Fab performance coilovers and the SAW's, I can say that you will be happy with either. The Fab lower bushing has been improved and in some ways they are nicer than the SAW's, but the SAW's have a larger diameter and a larger shaft, so they resist fade better.
