Yeah I guess about the same as what you posted earlier in the winter, hotter in the summer though. Yes, in sender cooler line.
Yup, winter. thanks Mt. Goat for the comparison.

A few points i wanted to share...

the hardest part for me was removing the old and installing new rubber lines to the hard lines.. I was
They are in a "tight" space.

2 types of 3/8" hoses helped me:
one from autozone(slightly bigger inside d) & the other from a mom & pop.
i used the az hose for the hard line connection & the m&p hose for the cooler connection.
See my second pic and compare the return line hoses.

pls wear a mask to avoid atf fumes. dont ask me why

and use plumber's tape for all fittings (if any)

bump for yet another great tranny cooler thread-we're planning a 3rd gen maintenance day for Sunday June 27 in Denver area. My 01 Limited friend is simply going to replace the 9 year old radiator to minimize chance of the milkshake occurrence.

Very slick install logsurfer and thanks for sharing the photos

One more tip, others have had better luck mounting closer to the condenser:

110% GUARANTEED to see higher temps in the trans than before you installed the cooler. This is a textbook example of how NOT to mount the cooler. Remove it ASAP.

not to confuse you, the op.

you'll see cooler temps if you relocate your cooler closer to the condenser.

Your ATF and tranny will appreciate the relocation during the warm months for sure....

i have noticed big swings in TFT depending on what i'm doing.. freeway when it was cold out last night (well 38*), flat ground, 75mph it was about 123*. going slower through mountains i've seen 180*.

i did plumb it in per tru cool's directions regarding the bypass. 180* doesn't bother me, but 120 seems a little on the cool side.. i'm not too worried as it isn't cold much here in sacramento. summer will really tell the tale..

isnt the "milkshake" caused by coolant getting into the trans fluid?

if so, why am i reading in some of these posts that guys are NOT bypassing the cooler in the rad.?

isnt NOT using the rad. and possible coolant leaks into trans. fluid the whole point?

or am i just reading this wrong

Diesel,

Those low ATF readings are fine. No need to worry.

Yes, you are correct on the cause. It seems that some have bought a new radiator and also an external cooler and decided to use both.

Others, have plumbed in the external cooler in series with the old built-in radiator cooler. They are still tempting fate!

regarding the idiot light - does that circuit affect anything else in the ECU? IE - I wonder if I can modify the circuit to make the light come on at 200 or 250... It would be nice to know at that temp rather than 300
