Experience with Daystar Bump Stops in 3rd Gen 4Runners--Install problem?
All,
Noticed the rust belt has taken another victim on my 97 SR5--the rear bump stops.
Would like to replace with Daystar stops--but not sure how to install. I know Sonoran Steel sells adapters, but am concerned the tack welded nuts may be trashed in removing the old bolts (currently seized--hitting regularly with PB Blaster, but not hopeful).
If I have to remove the stock tack welded nut, I'm concerned about accessing the new nut to tighten things down. Looks like with the stock Daystar spacers (KU09009), there is no way to tighten from the stud end (bolt head buried in rubber I think--I'll call Daystar later today to confirm??).
With the Sonoran Steel adapters, I could tighten from the bolt head while holding the nut with a pair of fine vice grips. I'll use this solution if I have to, but if I'm removing the tack welded nuts anyway, would rather save the $$ by not using the adapters. Nothing against Steve, just hate putting an extra $90 into a vehicle that is rusting apart and will be replaced next summer.
If anyone has thoughts or experience using the stock Daystar spacers in a 3rd Gen 4Runner I'd appreciate the help.

I run those bump stops in the rear.
What I did, instead of using sonoran steels adapter was to get some 4x4 inch metal stock (or whatever depth you want to go) and drill two holes top and bottom.
I then just used the stud and bolt for the daystar bumps, and attached them to the stock.
Then I used the metric bolt that was holding the stock bumpstops in, and used it to tighten the new daystar+metal stock to the existing hole.
I just used a big hammer and whacked the bumpstop, and it broke free. Then some channel locks and turned them off.
Here's what I did. Very simple, cheap, but, strong! I used such deep stock since I have about 6+" lift in the rear.
