exhuast question

I'm planning on getting the dynomax super turbo muffler in the near future when I have some extra money. My question is do you have to change the stock pipes to make it fit or can you just take the stock muffler out and put the dynomax in? Thanks.

Paul, it depends on what type of STM that you get. You will have to get one that fits your stock pipe. I don't know if they make them that small, but you should check out their website. Dynomax When I got mine, I upgraded the pipe size and I could feel some improvement in kick. I would recommend it, because it allows your rig to "breathe" easier and thus helps gas milage, etc. But if you could, you can keep the same pipe! :beaver:

BTOWN, I plan on getting the 17747 model, is this what you have? I believe the stock pipes are 2 1/4 inches but I could be wrong. What was yours? thanks.

Paul I am almost positive that stock pipes on a 2nd Gen are only 2 inch. Most people upgrade to 2.25 when they put a new muffler on. Btown can you confirm?

No, you dont have to change your stock piping.
The Dynomax 17747 has a 2 1/4" inlet/outlet, but if your installer is half-way decent he can sleeve up or down a 1/4" with no problem.
2ND Gens are 2" stock piping and 3rd Gens are 2 1/4".
Its your choice if you want to size up to the 2 1/4", which most with 2nd gens seem to do.
One my 3rd Gen I stayed with 2 1/4" piping. From everything I've read and whom I've talked to, 2 1/4" piping seems to be the ticket for our Runners.

BTW, You'll love the Dynomax, its the S@$T!

Hey Lifer...waasaap! Yeah, I kept my Runner with the stock size 2-1/4" behind my Flowmaster I gotta be different...BUT I had the shop do a rear exit under my bumper...like Japan style. With a TRD clone stainless tip, (became slightly louder than side exit) it looks real purdy too.

Yeah, I upgraded my pipe to 2-1/4" to fit the Super Turbo Muffler #17747. I love it. It sounds great and feels alittle better...gas milage, etc. I got mine from Summit and that is the cheapest place that I found it! I would check it out there if I were you! Goodluck and let us know what happens! :beaver:

Looks good, butnut. Just wondering what kind of hp gains you get w/the dynomax and how much one generally costs. I probably won't do the muffler until next year but it's good to know ahead of time and look forward to it.

The super turbo wont show significant increase in HP, but you will feel like it has some more kick and you will get better milage per gas fill-up. I bought mine off of Summit Racing for $39.95 (17747). That is the cheapest, so check that out! Everyone...let us know what you come up with and goodluck! :beaver:

Thanks for the comps...don't know the HP gains, but it sounds great, feels like a few ponies were added. The head wrench at Toyota test drove my Runner and complimented me on the nice exhaust tone. Combined with the air box/elbow mod, I get a lot of tone!

Butnut, this is probably a very stupid question....but...

I see that you have a Surf emblem and the SSR emblem. First off, what do both stand for and what do they mean. I mean is there something that you "do" to your rig that classifies it as a surf and the SSR? I was just wondering...it is my curiosity kicking in! Thanks dude! :beaver:

Hey Lifer...yeah, damn 'safety check' still around! I have to swap back all my stock legal lens. They check your tint, hassle me about my tires stickin' out 1/4" past the fenders...reconstruction permit for my aux. reverse lights... chicken ˟˟˟˟ BS. Luckily I found a check station that is'nt so picky...still need the stock lens though. There was legislation that passed so new cars less that 2 years old don't need 'em...duh. I still hate the hassle. One station told me my safety check plate (under bumper) was not legal. It has to be on the right side of the license plate and only cars with plastic bumpers can have 'em. Like I wanna take a razor blade to my chrome bumper every year...can ya tell I hate it? Nuff ramblin'...take it easy brah.
Hey Ryan...just copying my Japanese bruddahs. The Hilux Surf is the badging for the 4Runner in Japan. The SSR-G is the SR5 badge...I think. They have SSR-X and SSR-V models too. I have some Japan Surf stuff on my Runner so I'm just trying to be a little different. There are a ton of 4Runners here, I like mine looking different.
