Exhaust suggestions

Hello everyone. I am new to Yotatech so please be a little understanding if I do something wrong. (Helpful advice is appreciated) I have a 2000 4runner SR5 3.4v6. My exhaust system is starting to rust out and sound a little rough. I would like to get either a flowmaster or magnaflow cat back system to put on it but I only want a moderately aggressive tone. I need some help finding a system that would fit my vehicle. Also, I would like to keep it around $350 but $500 is my maximum. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Just measure length and angles of the pipes? Would it be fastest just to have the local shop build me one?

if you cant weld then i suggest have a shop do it, i meant measure the muffler you kind of trial and error and eye ball it with the bends or atleast thats how i do it but your going to want a muffler thats inlet and outlet are the same as the stock one and smaller is easier to fit in there the bigger ones can hang down and catch on stuff offroad

honestly i wouldnt bother buying those name brands exhausts. Go to a garage and have them do it up for you with their work. OR you can do it like what i did last month. My exhaust decided to get all rusty and fail on me. I went over to autozone and saw what they had on the shelves for exhaust. They had mostly flow masters and other brands. I just went with the cheapest one - 20 dollar thruster exhaust. It's tiny but does the job haha. So i cut off the big ass oem exhaust and put the thruster up with weld on the pipes. It gives my truck a little vibration and the sound but nothing obnoxious! So I'm happy with it. 20 dollar investment vs 200 dollars oem parts or 300+ for aftermarket catback system.... you cant beat that!

My exhaust pipe rusted off just before the cat about a year ago. Had an OEM muffler put back on but my truck was so quiet (before my factory tachometer installation) I could hardly hear when to shift when I was playing music.

A buddy and I were just dicking around and put a Cherry Bomb glasspack on the pipe for ˟˟˟˟s and giggles. Its made for a V8 and is about two and a half feet long, but to my surprise, it actually produces a nice tone. When I drive with my doors off, its slightly annoying and I'd hate to hear the noise constantly while in low rpms off road, but on the road it purrs nicely. It was fun for the $44 I spent on it.

Since the Cherry Bomb wasn't going to be permanent, I took a buddy's suggestion and got a FlowTech Raptor muffler. He mounted it on his '88 4Runner and it adds a nice throaty resonation to it that neither blows out your eardrums nor annoys you like a glasspack will. Its also a short muffler with reasonably sized inlet and outlet pipes. At $23 its the best bargain you can have and sounds great on 2.25" pipe from the cat back. I believe FlowTech is a division of Holley, and these mufflers have a great reputation from what I understand.

I will look into the FlowTech Raptor. I do not have the means for welding, so do you recommend that I buy it and use clamps, or just take it to the local shop and have them do it? Thanks

I brought my truck to meineke and they clamped it. Its easy enough to weld after the clamps are on, then just unbolt them.

Lots of people go for welding, and I can see why, but on a small engine with a really docile exhaust system...the clamps hold just fine. If a shop does them professionally, your chances of exhaust leaks are minimal.

I just got back from having my Raptor mounted. I'm not going to lie, its barely louder than my stock muffler, but it still sounds pretty good. The cherry bomb just blew my ears off every time my foot came off of the gas, I guess in comparision this sounds like a whisper, which doesn't do it credit.

www.amazon.com search for "flowtech raptor" and it shouldn't cost you more than $23 or so plus shipping. Quite the deal.

Do you think it would be possible to mount the flowtech raptor to the cherrybomb?

If you get lucky try and find a TRD exhaust.

Got an update on the Raptor. Drove about 45 miles to an OHV area and it gave the muffler a chance to break in. Its got a nice noise to it. I drove there and back doors-off so I could really hear it. At first it sounded like a stock muffler, but its got a nice little growl to it that makes it sound pretty good. I'm thoroughly pleased with the result. The Cherry Bomb was loud at idle and quiet at 2k rpm. The Raptor is quiet at idle and develops a nice gluttaral growl around 2k rpms and adds a nice effect.

Again, at $23 from amazon and $50 from Meineke to mount and add a downpipe....its the bargain of the century. Higly recommended.
