if anything you would pick up power on the top end and I highly doubt you would lose anything at all even at mid and low rpm

Well I really don't know what to say. Some say 2.25 some say 2.5 My muffler shop says 3.0. I have 3.0 after a 2.5 muffler and stock cats I feel I have enough restriction. I'm running a flowmaster 60 series and I really like how it sounds especially with the Jba headers. I wanted a deep tome which the 3.o gave me. It sounds so good I wand to put a video file up so everybody can hear it, but unfortunely I don't have a Digital video camera. But anyway, some guys are turning down past the muffler and they are happy with performance. My setup would be no different. IMHO I feel that running a larger exhaust makes no difference other than the ECU might not be able to calibrate properly so adding a piggyback might help. But again this is my opinion. I came to a conclusion, my mid and top end runs so well that mike my bottem end seem weak.

past a certian point, a bigger exhaust does hurt your engine. you lose the scavenging effect. your engine pulses the exhaust, and each pules is pressurized and heated, and creates a vaccum behind it, and pulls out the next exhaust pulse, thus the scavenging effect that helps evaccuate the hot stuff out. As your exhaust gets larger, that exhaust pulse has room to expand and lose pressure, and it cools as it dpereesurizes, and as it cools, it gets much heavier, so now instead of each exhaust pulling the next one out, each exhaust pulse is having to puch the one in front of it, this in turn makes your engine push much harder to evacuate the same amount of exhaust. Which seems backwards, but its true, bigger is better, to a point of diminishing returns. 3.0 is just to big for a Taco. Period. Unless its Force Inducted.
