engine losing power and backfiring/knocking at WOT
My truck that must last for 100,000 more miles is giving me problems and I was hoping for some good cheap advise to fix her up.
As the title says it accelerates semi-fine till I hit WOT and then it just dies out going to like 3000 rpm and backfiring or knocking.
The idle is also a problem. Every once in a while it will idle real low, start surging slightly and cuts off. If I restart while giving it gas it restarts easy enough and usually doesn't do it again.
Finally, when the engine is cold it will not really accelerate at all until it feels like the computer catches on and changes something. Then it accelerates fine till WOT.
My truck now has 78000 miles and is the 2000 limited. Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to Autozone or Advance Auto and have any codes pulled from the computer. Free for the asking and if its simple, they may replace it while
you wait or at least sell you the part to put in at home.
Appears to be the fuel filter but could be electrical.

Exact same thing happened with my runner at 78k, and I'm confident its is aged spark plugs as they should be replaced at 30,000 Mile intervals.
Duel electrodes denso or NKG and stay away from bocsh as the engine says right on it that it requires duel electrodes
good luck

The correct Denso plugs are K16TR11 and the dealership sells them for less than $20/set of 6.

I wouldnt change the plug wires though until you test them. My 97 plugs wires are still good (162K miles). Maybe the next interval would be a good time. Simple tests--start the engine and turn off the shop lights (in the dark)--look for arcing or sparks. If that happens they are bad. And you can run your hands along them (shop lights on) and see if you get shocked--that is the fun one!!
