electrical pop
Hey guys,
so i have been searching the forums for hours and i couldnt find anything that is like what i am hearing.
so hear is the story i recently bought a 2002 runner and i hear a random popping noise that sounds as if it is coming from behind the glove box. i cannot replicate it and it seems to be quite random. it sounds like a relay charges right before and then a pop comes after. my truck is completly stock.
i know it is hard to diagnose but i dont know what it is and i would appriciate any help.

You are probably hearing the brake booster pump relay kick off. Turn off the radio and ventilation fan and anything else that makes noise in the truck that you can shut off, start the truck, leave the tranny in park, and fully depress and release the brake pedal 6 or 7 times. You should hear the brake booster pump turn on with a soft "whiiiiirrrr". This should last approx 15 to 30 seconds, then you'll hear a "click" as the relay clicks off.
It will do this every 5-7 applications of the brake and is perfectly normal. Pop the hood and check out your brake booster. It is not a vacuum powered booster. It is a hydraulic booster. There is much more info on this subject on here. Do a search and you'll find everything you need.
