I think this may be the Tauras Fan, looks very similar to that Volvo unit:

measure your existing shroud. look at the height and width and the opening diameter. match up something w/ a large fan to nearly fill the opening w/ maybe a 2" or 3" gap. match the width as close as possible and get as much height as you can. remember that the OEM fan is offset, so it's good to get an electric fan that is also offset so it will easily match up w/ the OEM shroud.
the volvo fan is 17" tall and 24" wide and 3" deep and is stock on models V70, S60, S80, & S70

I was told today that if you can find a Ford Focus electric fan that it will work very well...small, light, (2) fans I believe and puts out more cfm than the Taurus. Only drawback is that the oldest model Focus is a 2000, so not many to pick from...

Andy, very nice install on that.....I am impressed! I wouldn't have thought to "nest" the Volvo fan shroud but that is a very good solution to the problem and should give you the best airflow possible from that fan. I wonder what is the highest CFM (non-dual) OEM fan out there?
....I think even if the Focus did have higher CFM the dual design would make nesting difficult.

First of all, the fan I have now in 90* heat w/ the AC on and sitting in traffic still never sees 100%. I've hooked it up directly to the battery to see how loud it was, and if I had to guess, the MOST it's seen so far is maybe 70%. I don't think a larger CFM or a dual fan is necessary. You basically would have to do MAJOR modification to the stock shroud to get it to work w/ the dual fan setup. I did ZERO changes to my stock shroud. If I wanted to go back to the mechanical fan, I wouldn't have to replace the first part and could do it in 30 min or less. It's THAT easy of a replacement.
Also, with the fan only seeing ~70% speed in harsh conditions AND the fact that it's a variable speed controller and the fact that the temp needle builds quickly and then PEGS at just under 50% and NEVER moves, it's my opinion that a dual fan or even a dual speed fan isn't needed for our setup. A simple, CHEAP, single speed taurus/sable/volvo fan will be fine.
BTW, I got my volvo fan used on ebay for $20 + $10 shipping. Nobody buys these to put on a street racer or crawler, so it's an untapped source so to speak. I've seen the prices on the dual speed taurus/sable fans go from $30 to $80 in the last 2 or so years simply due to the popularity of the electric fan swap on so many vehicles. The main thing is to get a fan that matches up w/ the diameter of the stock shroud opening well and that also has the "quiet", turbine-shaped blades and can move some air. If you find the diameter w/ the correct blade pattern, then by default it should move plenty of air for the 3.4L.

Didn't try warming it up high enough to see when the needle actually starts moving past the middle. The needle isn’t indicative of cooling efficiency at all if you ask me.
The only time my needle moved up from that "just short of halfway point" was when my fans had issues and I was on the way to a boilover.

I plan on switching to one of these fan controllers in the very near future. When you guys are talking about temps and fluctuation keep in mind that the thermal sensor for the solid state fan controller is at the bottom of the radiator measuring the final water temp just before it enters the engine. I dont think there will be much in the way of temp fluctuation with this type of controller.
