Elbow removal benefical to gas mileage

When I first did the elbow removal, I thought it wouldn't make any dramatic difference in MPG and performance. After about 3 weeks of having removed the elbow, I was stunned to find out my average (70% highway and 30% city) went from 16.4 to 17.3 mpg. Also on a road trip, my highway MPG went from 19.06 to 20.3. A verg big jump. I have the Beckson Deckplate in my room just waiting until I have enough time to install it which should be this weekend, after putting the elbow back on and installing the deckplate, I'm very curious to see what my MPG would be.

How many tankfuls did you run with the elbow off? I've been keeping detailed mileage records for over 30 years on all kinds of vehicles and it takes a minimum of 3 or 4 fillups (the lower the tank is the better) and similar driving conditions to get a true feel for changes you've made to the vehicle. It's also best to do 1 change at a time since some changes may cancel the benefits of others. Painstaking, I know...

I have filled up a total of 6 times since the beginning of February and I took the elbow off towards the end of January. My driving conditions are always the same and I do have a slightly heavy foot so maybe if I lightened up on the gas pedal, I could get even better gas mileage. I also always use the same Shell gas to fill up.

Cool. I'd be interested in seeing your results. I noticed only a minor (maybe 1/2 mpg increase) change when I installed the deck plate and Amsoil filter a few years back.
