EGR Valve...
Hi all. i am looking for some guidance. As of late my fuel effency has been terrible on my 99 V6 4runner and I was told to do a check of the EGR valve. In calling around no paret stores have one and even the Toyota dealer told me that they didn't have a part number for an EGR Valve for the 99 Toyota 4Runner. My Hays manual tells me that there is one... ...I have not had a chance to look under the hood as we got a foot of snow last night and my truck is covered. My question is do I have an EGR valve (don't now how I wouldn't have one) and are there any suggestions for the terrible fuel milage?
THANKS!!!

1) Yes, you have an EGR. There is usually small pipes running from the exhaust manifold or heads directly to the EGR. 2) once you locate it, unbolt it (buy a new gasket first, $1) and look for a thick buildup of carbon. Over time, it will get so thick, it can actually block off the EGR. Clean it out but do not use solvents because they can damage the valve (especially late model solenoid operated valves). Act like a dentist and utilize tools to scrape it out.
Try that and see if there is any improvement.
