Does'nt the skinny pedal input have something to do with mpg....i.e. if you don't have ect on and are accelerating up a hill from a stop and you apply more accelerator than yo need for the anticipated task won't that "flood" the fuel delivery system leading wasted fuel or am I thinking carburetor here?

I use the ECT button a lot, you get a lot better acceleration. Only bad thing, it dramatically reduces mpg, so I dont have it on all the time now.

Two things...

- 320 miles to a tank? OMG! I'm getting about 180, down from my "before 'something happened' norm of about 240. (I'm working on what that "something" is. It's not any of the usual suspects)

- It's REALLY hard to judge MPG by saying "I hit ___ miles at the 1/4 tank mark". The fuel gauge is incredibly non-linear and you wouldn't see 15/20 miles either way depending on what end of the scale you're at. The next time you fill up, just take the reading from the trip odometer and divide it by the number of gallons that the pump says you put in. So, 200 miles and 14 gallons would be... 200/14 = 14.29 miles per gallon. That also automatically adjusts for the different size fuel tanks that I'll bet we have.


And oh.. the original thread topic!

I used to have the ECT button engaged all the time. But my kickdown cable is foobar and the higher shift points were causing issues after I put on the supercharger. So now I run with it off, and my shifts are much more "normal".

When I'm on the interstate, unless I'm going downhill I have to keep the ECT on PWR and the tranny is constantly shifting back and forth to maintain speed. As soon as it shifts into OD my speed starts dropping. Really the best way to keep speed is to keep OD turned off. Good news is I'll be through with school in a few weeks and once I get back home I'm planning on tearing the engine apart and probably overhaul it and the tranny too. Bad news is I have to drive it back to Georgia from Wyoming with no cruise control.

I'm not sure if its rare or not but when I have the ECT on and punch the gas off the line...I chirp the tires in 1st & 2nd gear....is this rare?

YES! (the motor's stock? no s/c?) YES! YES!

I can't do that and I'm S/C and all sorts of things!


fwiw, ECT "shouldn't" make a difference off the line. Are you sure it does?

I have 31's but am only at about 35' (that is thirty-five feet) above sea level. I guess the intake is more like 37'...

In any case, it sounds like you may have a bad catalytic converter. Remove the O2 sensor and see how she runs. If you notice a change, it is time for a new cat. If you don't do this before your trip, you are likely to burn out exhaust valves, warp your heads, or cause other damage from excessive heat that cannot escape.

I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST FIXING THE CAT BEFORE THE TRIP IF THAT IS THE CASE!!!! That is a long trip!

I'm completely stock...and auto. Tires still have plenty of tread left, so maybe I am one of the few lucky ones.
