E-Locker 3rd Member with 4.30 to 4.10?
Pardon the obvious lack of knowledge here but if I can find an e-locker 3rd member for my "new" '00, should I be worried about whether it is a 430 or 410? Is this something that is easily changed?
Thanks,
Mike

Sorry I was so vague there. I undersatnd that the front and rear must match.
What I do not know is whether I should be shopping for a 410 or if I find a good deal on a 430 whether I should buy it and then change it to match my front?
Thanks,
Mike

That depends on how you want to use it, what tires you want to run, etc.
I am going from 4.10 to 4.30 because I want to run taller tires and retain the power.
And, (for those of you that are experienced and might get critical) I know that's not a very big diference. I want to retain the highway manners of a relatively high rearend gear and I will go to a dual case eventually so low rearend gears aren't necessary for what I want.

If its available get the 4.30 rear and then worry about finding a cheap front diff with 4.30 too. Swapping in a used front diff with the right ratio is about 20% the cost of paying someone to swap gears in a lockes rear. $200 for front diff that you can do yourself with patience vs. $1000ish for rear gear job with expert (necessary) labor.

I'll be picking up an e-locking diff this week. After we agreed on the price I asked him if I could swap my front diff. with one of his to match the gear ratio to one I was getting. He told me he'll get me one and that I don't have to worry about giving mine back, since he has lots of front diffs, and he doesn't sell many.
Something to keep in mind.

I like the 4.30s and would recommend swapping in a front diff rather than replacing the 4.30 e-locker gears with 4.10s. Swapping 4.10s into the 4.30 e-locker will add a fair amount to the price. Buying the 4.10 gears and paying someone to set them up may cost more than buying a 4.30 front diff and swapping that in at the same time.
If you just want to lock the rear, I would hold out to find a 4.10 diff unless you want to spend the exta $$. There are usually quite a few 4.10 e-locker diffs on car-parts. Are you going to do the housing mods yourself? If not, dropping in the ARB might be a good way to go, especially if you plan to eventually add onboard air.

44Runner, I already found a rolled 99' with a 4.30 locker and the front diff. I am getting a great deal if I take them out.
My plan is not to re-gear. Someday (within the year) I will put in dual cases to handle the gearing.
