Dyno results of V8 Super Charger 4wd
Gents in case you missed the story, my 03 4rnr VA SC was running poorly and was exactly the same as a 04 2wd VA stock truck. The dealer couldnt fix it, TRD wasnt all that helpful on the phone, but responded to my email immediately. TRD sent me a new ECU over night and hinted they new about problems with some ECU. I ran Weedo's 04 VA stock vehicle and pulled him by 2 car lengths while running 0-60mph. Total improvement over the old ECU. It was amusing when some on this site told me a SC V8 4wd wouldnt be any faster then a stock 2wd V8, that 4wd drive train would eat all 100plus hp. Now that I have the new ECU and I have run faster then the 2wd we all know thats not true.
Dyno run at DynoComp in Scottsdale AZ, did the vehicle today and here are the results.
220HP to the wheels, (all 4 wheels), we did the runs with the center diff locked, as the fronts ironically wont spin as they think there is no traction, either way it makes no difference.
260 FT/lbs of Torque.
These are real world numbers.
To compare Toyotas ideal #'s 235hp base plus the 118hp peak SC # = 353Hp (at the crank) that would mean a loss of 130hp from the drive train based on the dyno results. The dyno shop says (we all know this) factory specs are a stretched to sound better.
It would be interesting to have a stock 4wd V8 dyno as that would give a base line for Hp and Torque to the wheels and show the SC gains.
Oh yeah the PSI of boost is about 6.5 not 7 as claimed and the O2/fuel map is fat, factory precaution to keep from burning it up, but is too rich and loses some HP.
Any one else have any Dyno numbers to compare? $140 bucks it was worth it to know where my truck is at versus just making up some number based on Toyotas claims.

It would be interesting to see the difference with a stock truck.
If you want to retune that fuel curve and find some lost HP from being to rich you may want to consider the URD AIC. That will take control of the additional injector and you can set the fuel up for best power. We have seen FANTASTIC results on the Matrix which uses the same TRD stuff and it also is way overly rich.

Yep, just to reiterate. Todd smoked my 2wd V8 once his new ECU arived. I've raced some pretty reasonable cars and been even til about 60mph (Mustang GT, WRX STi that probably didn't get a good launch, etc). After 60mph the brick 4 Runner's aerodynamics take over so I quit then.
But Todd beat me far worse than anything else I've raced. Of course we haven't lined up with my Z06 yet...
Explain more on the "extra" injector and what all is needed to take advantage of it? I'm sure Todd will be all over it!

I took the truck to Firebird in PHX saturday night and got 2 runs in, the best was a 14.99, I beat a 5.0 mustang pretty good off the line although he got me at the end with a 14.94, not bad for a big heavy truck with BFG's.
Then Sunday I went wheeling up at Crown King, the mustang stayed home!

twilson,
If you still want a stock 4WD to compare, I'm in the East Valley and I just dumped my 94' for a new 04' 4Runner AWD V8. Only had it 2 days and it's bone stock and baby fresh. I just need one weekend to run up some miles to break it in before I'd run a dyno but after that I'd be happy to volunteer as the "baseline" number.
PM me if you're interested.

How hot was it when yoou ran the dyno?
I think it was over 100, right? If so you would probably have given up a lot of HP/TQ to heat. The S/C setup doesn't have an intercooler (???), so you can probably expect a lot more when you run in cooler weather.
You can also lock the center diff and remove the front shaft to get and equivalent 2WD dyno number, that way you will now exactly how much you loose on 4WD. Just remember to run it on a std 2wd dyno
Edit:
ANd beating 15 is pretty hardcore on bigger A/T's.
