drive light goes out on 99 4-runner ( tranny trouble?
I have a 99 Toyota 4-runner. I recently had my tranny rebuilt due to a blown tranny cooler that allowed coolant to get into my tranny. Anyhow, after the rebuild, the shifting was abrupt and not at all smooth. A check engine light revealed that the lock-up solenoid was faulty, so I replaced all the solenoids in the tranny ( brand name was Rostra Solenoid kit 31R401D...part number 52-9002 for the A340 tranny. The abrupt shifting is still there to some degree. When putting the truck in drive, and accelerating, the drive light on my dash goes out, until the vehicle gains some momentum or I let off the accelerater. A couple of times it seemed as if it was in neutral and the rpms increased but the truck wasn't pulling. I was told by the shop that done the work that the problem is the "neutral safety switch" otherwise known as a "range sensor". Even with the drive light still on while driving, the truck is not shifting smoothly. The fact that the drive light goes off under acceleration has me baffled. No codes are comming up on a scan. Does anyone know if this switch or sensor can be causing my weird behavior in my tranny...or is the problem most likely still in the tranny. It just seems coicidental that the drive light never ever went out before the rebuild, it happened only a couple times before the replaced solenoids, and now it's happening all the time since the new solenoids have been installed. Please help.
