Double Cab Rear Sway Bar

For the few of us here with Double Cabs, I just ordered a Hellwig rear sway bar for my truck. I'm hoping this will improve my handling quite a bit since cornering kinda sucks in our trucks. Anyway, it's supposed to be a straight up bolt-on so I will let you guys know my opinion once it's on.

How much was it and where did you get it from?

Make sure you post the results and your opinion. I am really interested in what you think. That may have to be the next mod to my doublecab.

By the way, do you have the TRD Off-Road package on your truck? The handling with the Bilsteins is supposed to be better than the regular suspention.

HUH? Maybe the Prerunners don't come with the same suspention. Mine has blue and yellow Bilsteins. The same ones that are on my buddie's TRD Tundra? Has anyone else heard this?

As far as I know both PreRunner and 4x4 Double Cabs equipped with the TRD Off-Road Package have Tokicos not Bilsteins, like I said before, only regular cabs and ext. cabs have Bilsteins. The Tokicos are also yellow and blue, mine definitely say Tokico on them not Bilstein. Check it out on toyota.com

Ok. I'll check it out. Assuming they are Tokicos (same company that makes the six piston calipers on my motorcycle), what is the difference between them and the Bils?

I really don't know the difference between them, I'm sure someone around here could tell us more about the specs on them though. That is why I have been leaning toward replacing them with Bils, I personally thing the Tokicos give a pretty rough ride which would hopefully be corrected by swapping shocks.

Ok, I'm not making this up, at least I dont think, go to TOYOTA TACOMA and look at this page, you will notice at the bottom there are footnotes. #3 footnote under the TRD package, look at this footnore, it says " #3 Xtracab models. Tokico shocks on Double Cab models." And yes I have read my shock before and they do say Tokico.

Do you plan on using the sway bar off-road? And if so, have you given any consideration to the effects it will have? I'm not trying to be a jerk, just wanted to make sure you evaluated that.

BajaTaco, no I dont really go off-road too much, it actually performs very good for being 2WD, never gotten stuck yet, I guess the locker helps quite a bit. Anyway, I just want better handling/conrnering around the city, I am not too concerned about off-road performance.

Angry Keeping everyone posted!

After much anticipation, I did not recieve my sway bar on Wednesday. That's right, once again Fedex has screwed up. Apparently they did not have an apartment # on the address so he(driver) left the package on my front porch(so he says) guessing and hoping it would be the right apartment. Anyway, after I told him the sddress, he confirmed that he had delivered it to the right apartment, but the package was missing. Somebody apparently walked by and stole my package--a Hellwig Anti-Sway bar for a Toyota Tacoma. Boy I bet whoever stole it is pissed, they probably dont even know what it is. So now I have to wait for JC Whitney to send me another one, they said they would send it overnight at Fedex's expense, they were very nice and fast about it, considering it wasn't their fault. So as soon as I get it I will let everyone know.

Got it Installed!

That's right, I finally got my rear swaybar installed. It's AWESOME! After a short drive around my apt. complex I could definetly tell a HUGE difference. It greatly reduces body roll, cornering and hadling are greatly improved, not to mention the truck feels a lot more stable. Another thing I noticed, it improved my ride quality as the rear end is a lot tighter it doesnt bouce around as much. The truck doesnt handle as well as my 2000 Celica GT-S did but it isvery noticeable. I strongly reccomend it to anyone who is looking for better handling and cornering, I think it fits all model tacomas.
