doors off on a 3rd gen
#2
I dont remember who but I've seen a pic in the member rides of a 3rd gen 4runner with its front doors off. My guess would be to sift though the members rides untill you find it then send them a PM. Maybe someone will chime in and give you a specific member to research but untill then thats were I would start.....sorry I couldn't be more help...good luck

from my understanding, you must have mirrors on your vehicle, in most states anyways. so if you remove your doors, you need mirrors mounted, say, on your fenders.
imo, i doubt its all that hard to pull them off. wait, you got wires in the doors. youd have to rig something up, some kind of quick disconnect system. the hinges themselves arent bad at all. just get help removing/rehanging the doors, unless you have a door holder tool thing.

Removing the doors is easy...4 bolts per door to remove and a few wires.
As far as it being legal or illegal, call your local or state officials.
I know a guy that's removed all 4 doors on his '96 4Runner here in AL and has had them off for 2 months now w/o any police issues. Granted, he also has a mirror mounted to his left front fender
Check out JHupp's 4Runner. He's taken his front doors off before on his 3rd Gen (scroll about 3/4s the way down): https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f79/...1-sport-78623/

I'm in the middle of a major stereo upgrade so i took a couple pics that shows what needs to be done.
Take the inside kick panel off.
Disconnect two wire harnesses (one blue, one black).
Detach the accordion rubber boot. Each hinge has 2 bolts.
In between the two hinges, theres a center hinge (not sure whats it's called). It has a plastic cover that pops off, exposing the bolt to remove it. Thats all.

As mentioned in the last couple of posts they are pretty easy to remove. 4 Bolts 1 screw and unplug two harnesses and they come off. Many states don't have laws against not having doors, but you usually need a driver side mirror and most of the time you are supposed to have a 3" lip on the floor.
