You will be fine rounding it. Just don't fill it so far its at the top of the filler neck.

I have a 4th Gen and normally put in about 20 gal when the light starts coming on. The most I have put in was 22 gal. I have not tried to add an extra few.

There is a defective breather in the 3rd Gen 4Runner. Usually you can squeeze another gallon in after is "clicks" off. I just did quite a bit of TSB research. Check my web page. I also just filled up my tank this morning with 18.5 gallons. Even the TSB breather sticks down far enough to leave an air gap for expansion. The evap breather (different than the defective fill breather) is high enough to keep from sucking juice unless you REALLY over fill the tank. The reason everyone only fills 14-15 gal is because the gauge sender is inaccurate. You can go another 100 miles (sometimes) after the warning light comes on.

A friend of mine has this trick, to change the subject a bit, with payment via CC. What is does is to put in say $20.57 or $17.57 but always .57 He say's that no one else will ever do this, and if his CC# is hi-jacked at a gas station and he will find it right away.. Dang good idea I say.
