Do I need the fan pulley(bearing plate)?
I had my fan pulley bearing burn up and was quoted over $1000. for the repair. The bearing plate assembly was over $900. alone. So far I have bypassed it by using a Taurus fan and a belt directly from the crank to the alternator. My problem is I can't run the power steering belt since that fan pulley housing is in the way and haven't been able to cut it off with a reciprocating saw. That's some hard steel! So I'm wondering if I can take that whole bearing plate off and toss it or does it support some other part of the engine? Thanks!

I would normally try to get a used part for it but since it's a bearing, there's no telling how long a used one would last.Plus, going with an electric fan helps with the power and gas mileage.
