LOL.. i thought i was bad about not using the SEARCH button...

use 75-90 or 75-110------ preferably the 75w110.

Amsoil, M1, Durablend, redline about anything will work good. the key is to change it every 30k miles or less (pending if you haul or offroad alot for non synthetics)... with synthetics you may be able to stretch it longer.. with amsoils severe gear in 75w110 its 50k severe service or 100k regular service.. thats why i like it. ill change it out every 50-60k miles. the only thing i haul is a 21ft bass boat and i dont do that often.. plus i dont offroad often either.

So you'd change M1 out every 30K?

I can get Amsoil but it's a pain as the ONLY dealer in my area is across town. M1 is in all the auto parts stores around here.

that depends.. if you haul alot and or offroad alot then yeah i would but if you dont then you may extend that... also you have to think you live in the mtns where the roads are fairly steep. take that into account also bc your truck has to work harder lets say than mine here in the piedmont of nc.. so thats up to you. i would say change it every 30-40k miles for you.. its not that expensive either.. its cheaper than taking the rearend apart and fixing due to your gear oil being spent.. but thats just me

Why preferably 75-110? Doesn't the manual say 75-90 weight?

That is correct. And if I remember correctly you will need a 10mm and a 12mm allen wrenches to get the drain and fill bolts out.

75w110 is the "new" 75w90.. if you look at spec sheets the newer 90's are thinner.. hence the reason to go with 75w110. thicker is better in this case... also, the 110 will not shear as quick... 90's were suggested due to gas mileage issues. seriously contact toyota.. also they will tell you if you pull or offroad to go with a slightly thicker weight for better protection.. i hope i can find my email i got from toyota stating that.. the 110 isnt that much thicker than 90 anyway so really no harm at all.. you can go much thicker than that if you want

I doubt anything will be too thick. It will probably lube the gears better but that comes at the expense of gas mileage. I have no idea how much it will affect the gas mileage though.

hell no jump on it! remember its a synthetic so it will act like a thinner fluid anyway. its just the nature of it.. thats a great weight. i say go for it. with that weight i would not hesitate to go 40-50k miles on it.. btw, if you can find the 75/90 then get that to cover your tcase. you can use the 140 and i am sure it will be fine its just that you dont use the tcase no where near as much as the diffy's.. i doubt you will see a mpg decrease bc of the heavier weight.. now if it were dino gear oil then maybe.. but i dont think you will notice anything

Valvoline standard gear oil is fine. Napa brand is made by Valvoline. Save your money. Extend your diff breathers and enjoy your truck.

Well....regarding my other post on ATF, I can't find Mobil 1 ATF anywhere in town! I'm going to get Amsoil ATF since that is the case. While I'm at it I'm going to go ahead and get the Amsoil 75/110 gear lube since I'd have to ransack a few stores to get enough lube to change out both diffs and the transfer case. I'm also going to get the 110 instead of the 140 since I don't want to have to bother with having two different types of gear lube in the garage.

Thanks!

you can mix the 140 and the 110 if you have to.. thats not a big deal at all.. seriously.. to be honest i cant find M1 here either its just the multivehicle.. now if they re-badged the old M1 to the multivehicle then someone didnt tell me.. thats why i asked you to contact Mobil to verify. ask them to email that to you for proof just incase.

quatro, you can use other dexIII's if you want just remember to change them out frequently by drain and fills every 10k miles. i like valvoline maxlife dexIII for a dino dexIII.. thats what i used for a good bit until i switched to synthetics. the maxlife is cheaper and easily available.. its up to you bud.

Well, got the diffs and transfer case done. Now I'm just waiting on the stronger magnets for my pan and I'm going to do the tranny.

Thanks!
