Different Brake Caliper Design

Different Brake Caliper Design
I have a 1985 Toyota pickup 2 wheel drive..... Well, here is the fun part... When installing my lift, the brake line extension brackets wouldn't even come close to fitting.. I thought I had done something wrong... I called tech support at Fabtech and they said that another customer, about a week prior, had told them that toyota pickups of that era had 2 different caliper designs. They also advised me to remove the entire lift as they couldn't endorse or condone me modifying them for liability reason~~well, I did modify the hard lines and the brackets and everything is fine.. Something about one being a made in Canada design and the other Japan....
I ordered brake pads from my local Kragen's and when they arrived and I tried to use them, they would not fit into the caliper so I returned them... What should I do and where do I get pads? Does anyone know anything about this?

I don't know about 2wd but the 4wd can be updated by using FJ40 rotors and 86-95 calipers. This is about 1/4 way down the page under brake rotor swap.

This will give you vented rotors and 4 piston calipers.

i dotn think the tlc mod will work o nthe 4x2 as the rotors are totally differnt.. i have a 5 on 4.5" lug pattern, the tlcs dont
also.... i guess nobody knew about this change... the parts catalog at the local kragens only lists one set of brake pads fro the 1/2 ton, 4x2 in 1985.... and they didnt fit.....
fabtech knew nothing about the difference... i wouold have not found out except fabtech said that a guy that worked for a toyota dealership called them and had the same problem i did.. and told them about the different design....

jsut remebered something else that makes the calipers different from each other... the calipers have a hard line that comes out of them that passes through a bracket befroe being attached to a rubber line... this hardline on hte calipers is different from the ones that fabtech designed for my lift... meaning that there really is differnt ones.... and i need brake pads soon... my brakes sound horrible now!

looking at things now, i wonder if my truck is a 1 t0n... the performance friction carbon metallic pads i ordered didnt fit... and although im pretty sure my truck is a half ton 4x2, the vin plate under the hood says it has a 3.07 gear ratio in an 8" housing and a w46 which is a 4 speed.... and from what i have seen here, if it has a 4speed and an 8" its a 1 ton.....
