Differences between JDM Hiluxes and U.S. versions....Are there any?
Were there were any exterior differences between the Japanese home market Hiluxes and the trucks exported to North America during the '84-'88 model years?
I know there were double-cabs and diesel engines offered in the world markets that were not available here, but I'm wondering if there were any minor "cosmetic" differences as well.
You know...like would an '84-'88 Hilux PU or 1st gen 'Runner sold in Japan look pretty much identical to the same model offered here?

i recall reading somewhere that had all the info you could possibly ask for on the subject. I think that the hilux had 2 ply sheet metal from the cab-back and also was classified as a 1-ton rather than a half-ton.

Almost positive that the platform of the US Toyotas up to 95.5 was exactly the same as the Hiluxes. They were both rated as 1 ton trucks. The Hiluxes did have SFA models up to 98 though. The bodies from 84-88 US trucks are the same as the Hilux. Check this page out: http://www.brian894x4.com/Hiluxgeneration2.html
