differences between gens of tacomas??
sorry guys i know its a newbie ?tion but i didnt find anything ion the faq...anyways i was just wondering if you could school me on the different gens of the tacoma, what years they were produced etc
i think i like the 3rd gens (early-mid 90's) if you guys can post up pics that would be great also, thanks!

Tacomas came out in '95 1/2. Before that they were just called "pick ups" or Hilux. Anyway, here's a quick history of different trucks:
1st Gen = '79-'83 Carbed engines with solid front axles.
2nd Gen = '84-'88 These all had the same body style, but the front axle was replaced with IFS in '86. Also, '85s were the first fuel injected rigs. '88 was the first year for a V6.
3rd Gen = '89-'95 These are all fuel injected. The extended cab models got a much longer wheelbase than the 2nd gens had.
Tacomas = '95 1/2 to present. I think the front end (grill, bumper, etc.) changed a bit around '97 or '98, then again for '01.
4Runners don't quite follow the same timeframe:
'84-'89 = 1st Gen
'90-'"96 (or'97?) = 2nd Gen
'96 (or '97?)-"02 = 3rd Gen
"03-present = 4th Gen

leaf springs are shorter in the first generation....TRD wasn't offered until '98, dcab wasn't offered till 2001
