Difference between sr5 Tacoma (4x2) and Prerunner(4x2)?

What is the main difference between the tacoma sr5 4x2 and Prerunner 4x2? I'm looking at model years from 98-00. If I took a taco sr5 4x2 and lifted it and put 16" wheels on it, would I basically have the prerunner 4x2?

Im asking cause I kinda want to get a work truck. My dad has a 98 base model taco. When he puts alot of stuff in the bed, it looks like the thing is lowered. I hate that look (sorry X-CAB owners! just personal pref) I've always liked the look of the prerunners - but the price difference between 'prerunner' and regular taco is nearly 3000 where I live. Is it just the suspension and wheels? Also, I'm really into the tacoma quad-cabs. Was 2001 the first year they came out?

Thanks!

the prerunner has the 4wd suspension but is 2wd...so it looks like a 4wd rather then being short like a 2wd

and knuckles, hubs, control arms, etc. It'll be a lot cheaper to buy a prerunner than to try to convert a 5-lug mini.
