Diff breather size
Has anyone ever used a 3/8" male brass niple in place of the toyota part? If I run a tap through first will a 3/8 nipple work? I ask because I read an article about using a 1/4 " npt nipple and I assumed it was a 1/4" nipple with the standard 1/2" thread....Guess what way to large .
I guess I'm asking will a 3/8" Dia thread into the old breather hole?
Thanks Chris

Yes, Toyota doesn't have the parts and I had read somewhere that a guy used npt threads and just ran a tap in the hole first

Problem
I talked to my toyota dealer over 3 weeks ago and he said the parts were on back order. I have already waited 3 weeks and now he says it going to be 2-4 more weeks. Has anyone ever used this application before with a 3/8" npt nipple

I'm going to have to agree w/ wabbit. Either your dealer is too lazy or don't know WTF they're doing. You could probably even find the fittings at a local junkyard.

But yeah, 1/8 is what I used I guess...its been a while. Here is Roger's Writeup on using the NPT fittings that I followed. http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4x4...html#Breathers

I have 1/8" fittings too.
I got two nipples and an elbow for less than 3 bucks. Home Depot, Napa, Lowe's, any place that sells anything automotive or plumbing ought to have a big bin of them.

You can also get the parts from a Nissan Dealer. http://www.larsdennert.com/4runner/breather

I cringe every time I hear about people tapping the breather hole. I hope the hardened steel shavings find the magnetic drain plug before they chew up the gears too much.
I used a Nissan one up front and the Toyota part in back. If I had it to do over i'd save the $16 I spent and do it like Steve's (Robinhood150) suggestion for more like $3.
