Deckplate mod
im guessing the way to do this yourself is the same for an 01 taco as it is for a 4th gen 4runner, or 3rd whichever the instructions are for. if im wrong will someone please instruct me to a site or a way to do it for an 01 taco

Yes, 3.4L V6 3rd gen 4Runner's and the 3.4L V6 Taco's are the same. 4th gen 4Runner is totally different.
An easier way to know is by engine code. All 5VZFE's should have the flat-front airbox, allowing for the mod.

Hey Nick
The Deckplate mod for the 4Runner and your 01 Taco is the same!!! The engines in both trucks are the same!!! And you can hurt your truck!! You are just making the truck breath better!!! Just remember that with the Deckplate mod, you can always put the deckplate lid on and return your air-box to stock!!
Good Luck
If you want to check it out, on my Runner check out my site!!
