I was searching all over for replacement airboxes incase I screwed up and stuff. But I never did and I am totally satisfied. Like people have said, it really opens up the higher rpms. That is great for passing or just getting into that higher power that's in the higher rpms. I think it quieted down my freeway driving, too, because the engine is breathing so well.

PS - I'm an engineer, too.
Sad part is it is never enuf.......you just get supercharger envy after that......

you're right, someday a supercharger would be fun. THe thing is that with my little engine, the TRD supercharger will get me up about what the 3.4L guys are stock. But still, it would be so cool to have....

So it sounds like you need to save for a swap (for a 3.4L) and a supercharger.....

The 4.5" hole saw gives a perfect cut! I just had to take my Xacto and trim some of the stragglers Overall a super easy job and no check engine light , thanks to the kind folks on the board! Took about an hour to complete and wow what a difference...especially when passing on a 2 laner! Thanks for the input my fellow runner freaks!

Lining with plastic...

Can't you just vacuum out the air filter box really well after cutting a hole in it and not worry about lining it with plastic?

I also saw where someone put a piece of screen on the deckplate mod so that no bugs or leaves can get sucked in there. Is that a good idea?

What about when it is raining outside and you are splashing through puddles? Should you put the deckplate back in on rainy days?

Brian,
I didn't line my box with plastic, I just vacuumed it out really really good and wiped it out and vacuumed again. As far as the screen, Any bugs, etc that gets in will be caught by the filter. I will just check mine every fill up for bugs etc. Water should not get in during rain, but if you are going through deep water or deep puddles I would cover it up.

The deckplate is a must:

More pics and write-up on my site.

I used saran wrap to line to box. This worked great to catch the shavings.

Sensor safer silicone sealant

What the heck is this and where do I get some? On the deckplate mod I am reading they say to use this stuff around the deck plate? Why? and again, where do you get it?

I used JB Weld on 2 deckplate mods now - never had a problem.

ditto, I used whatever sealant I had at home. I think just make sure it's waterproof. The sensor safe stuff I think is a little too overkill.

Just go to your local auto shop and they'll have it around. It's not hard to find.

Hole saw would have been nice but I used a Dremel-type and it worked out fine. Was harder than it could have been but I didn't mind
