It's there and quite a good article! I was planning on doing some mods to my inst. panel sometime in the future, however, with the addition of this article, will be taking on the project much sooner!.

A couple ?'s butnut...

Did you use any primer before adding the high temp aluminum spray?

And im confused with your turn signal mod. If you subbed out the blue plastic for the green why would you color the bulbs as well? ( It may make more sense once I take it apart myself, if so sorry to ask a stupid ?

I'm taking pix even now. Don't know how many others are going to TBI their Chev V8 in their toys.

Doing the before pix.

Also doing a valve adjust and injector cleaning on a 90 4Runner 3.0 V6. Hope to get pix of that too.

Soon to assist (and document) a conversion to EFI of an 87 2.4 PU (to '90 EFI)

Good work guys! Real nice write up! Looks good and now I want to do some stuff too! I will have to see what I can come up with. Just a ? though. Is the dash setup similar to that of a 2nd gen as the 3rd? Thanks! :beaver:

Sounds good David. I have a few Toyota projects (not problems) I'd like to pay you to help me sort out, but you live too far away! Dang.

Cool

Big thanks to Mark for making me look good again! Hope this will help you guys get into yer dash's. Hey Nerf, no primer needed. The Hi-temp is self priming. Under the 'glass' it's well protected. On my upper dash and shifter piece it holds up well. It can scratch though...As for the bulbs, incandescent bulbs have a natural yellow glow. Through the blue plastic, yellow + blue looks greenish. The Sharpie acted as a neutalizer being blue. That's why the 'Hyper-white' bulbs look blue, but give a 'white' light. It's the key to getting a true blue color on the turn sigs. Also, I forgot to mention, I sanded the first layer of blue plastic with 400 grit to give a frosted look like the stock green ones. They have a soft glow that looks nice. Feel free to ask me any questions. Hey Ryan, I can't say for sure about the 2nd gen dash. The R&R of your dash should be very similar though...give it a shot and post your findings.

Cool

Here's another painting tip. I spray pieces on the bottom of a slightly larger box. That way I can rotate the piece to spray all the inside angles, nooks etc without touching the piece. On the gauge surround, I also sprayed from behind to cover the lower slots evenly. Don't try to get heavy color coverage too fast. You can tell with this color as it likes to bubble a dark grey if you got too close. Don't worry, give it time to flash dry and it will even out. Respray later, this time stay farther away and build up light coverage. Build light dusting coats and let flash 1 minute between coats. It dries fast so turn, spray, let flash, turn spray etc. Should take about 10 minutes tops, with multiple coats. Don't rush it, and you'll have a very even pro finished piece. Let final spray dry 10 minutes to let the solvents flash out. Good luck.

Butnut, why type of plastic did you use? I noticed how you used a clear plastic, but what type is it? 1, 2, etc? Just wondering if I ever get the dash apart I can do that! Thanks! :fireman:
