Unhappy Damaged Paint

Hello People

I would like to know if anyone can help me out with some minor paint damage to my vehicle. I know I am in the truck section but I have a question concerning my toyota corolla.

My car was hit with one egg on the rear hatch the other day. Several cars in my neighborhood were also hit. I think it was on there for several hours. I am thinking maybe 7 or so. I washed it off and I noticed some damage where most of the yolk was. The damaged area is a little pitted and appears it only went through the clear coat. My car is fairly new ('04). I got an estimate of $600 bucks to fix the area that was affected, which is about one inch squared. Is there anything I can do to fix this. I was thinking of just waxing this small area. Or should I just pay the $600 to get it fixed professionally. I will provide some pics soon.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
