cv boot replacement?

Hey all,
Well i went crawling under the runner today and noticed a whole helluva lot of grease in the pass side suspension. Well it turns out that my pass side inner cv boot is ripped all to hell. I talked to a toyota tech at the stealership i work for, and he said that it is a pain in the ass to replace because you have to tear apart the whole suspension to get the to cv. He qouted anywhere between 1-3 hours for the job. What i want to know is: Is there an easier way to do this? I was thinking of just slicing the new boots i got, slipping them over the joint, epoxing in closed and then using hose clamps, but im none too sure how intelligent this is. Should i break down and pay the tech, or is there an easier way for me to do it? Thanks in advance!

Hmmm I just did mine on my 96 a few weeks ago not sure how similar it is but if it is its easier IMO to just get a remanufactured axle, I got mine from Advance Auto for 85.00 +core charge and has a lifetime replacement on it. It was alot eaier than I thought it was to do it yourself. I searched for my old thread : https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...6&highlight=cv
I am sure someone will chime in with more information that might be specific to your model.

I did this on my 89 pickup a while back. I just pulled the wheel off and disconected the break caliper. After setting aside the break caliper I unboltyed the upper joint (ball joint) but the brake wouldn't flop over untill I compressed the tortion bar with a juack untill I had clearance and flop over the whole hub and roater. After that, you just pull the whole cv assembly out, clean it, boot it, and throw it back together. It's hard to fish the assembly out but you can get it with enought cuss words.
