a couple curious questions about my 3rd gen
got some questions here if anyone knows. i got a 1999 sr5 4r
1: on the dashboard guages..to the right of the speedometer, above the fuel meter there is a thing that says *gas door* and it has an arrow that points left, is this suppose to light up? whats it do? im thinking its suppose to let me know if my gas door is open or not, but it doesnt come on, bulb out maybe?
2:corner lights, they are next to my main lights but on the corner, they have an orange spot to them. do these lights serve a purpose? b/c they never turn on or anything even with highbeams. i was thinking blinkers, but my blinkers are below my bumpers. i looked in there and i see bulbs, how much do these bulbs cost to replace?
3:rear tailgate cargo...its the compartment on the passenger side in the rear cargo area. whats suppose to go in there from the factory? b/c it has to straps in there lookin like it buckeld something down. what do you guys keep in there?
thanks, for the help, i was really curious about the "gas door" thing on my dash.
- and if anyone has a list of bulbs that are included in the 2wd '99 dash and control panels so i can do a LED swap that would be great! i've searched the fourms but everyone has 1997 1998 or 2000 2001 2002....no 1999. there are limiteds and sport editions but i dont know if thats same for sr5 bulb lists.

Greetings...
Might be able to help you out here.
1. Gas Door just lets you know what side the gas door is on in case you forget. Mine has never illuminated. It does not tell if you if you left your gas door open.
2. The lights next to the headlamps are suppose to light up with your parking lights. They do not blink, and remain on. They use the type 168 wedge type bulbs.
3. I've never had anything in there, but was thinking it was maybe for a Cd changer.

1) to remind you the gas door is on the drivers side instead of passenger
2) those lights come on with your side markers (the middle position on the headlight stalk between full on and off)
3) I'm not sure that anything came in there. From time to time, I have kept jumper cables, shackles, first aid kits, tow ropes, a bottle jack, etc. the possibilities are endless.

Same answers for 1 and 2
on 3 I was once told there was a first aid kit that was strapped in there..
I have a whole bunch of stuff jammed in there.. also wiring for the trailer comes out of there.. nothing fits that well though.

To be "that" guy, try using the search feature or search the site from google for efficiency.
All of those answers are available on the site and even in your owners manual (i.e #2, #3). Also a great resource is http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1996/SIL/index.html
Becoming familiar with these will only better your vehicle experience.
1 and 2 have been answered. #3 is a warning reflector holder, though the reflector kit was not included as original equipment.

With regards to the corner parking lights- some have altered the corner lenses to have them become turn signals as well.
Ritzy Runner has a writeup concerning that as well as a variety of other enhancements.

Because 4Runner was also sold in Europe (England), some country's local by-laws require First Aid kit and Fire Extinguisher to be present in the vehicle all time. This is a spot where it all goes.
