You might be attached today, but you will feel different when you sell your rig, buy a 4wheel drive already complete-without the 10 lost weekends.

Calling it financially irresponsible is a bit of a stretch ... Calling it more time consuming/ expensive than just selling and buying a 4x4 would be more accurate, unless you know how his personal finances look.

As far as a kia rio goes, you said you would rather have a kia than a yota, not a corolla. Kia's seem to be cheaply made, I have no info to back this up.

He already said he wasn't willing to do that, so there's no point in suggesting it as it has already been done 5+ times.

If you want to keep it, then I would throw a locker in the rear, and see if that is going to be good enough for what you want to get done, if not, and if you don't want to sell it, then bite the bullet and go buy a wrecked parts truck like mentioned before, or if you know for a fact that you are going to keep this forever, and don't care what kind of money you put into it over time, then just sas it from the beginning, there is no reason to waste all your time/work if this is where you will be in a few years anyways

I have talked to Blake (neliconcept) personally and he did the inchworm converison with a low geared transfercase and kept the stock 2wd transmission.

i asked him how much it ran him as I was curious

ready to eat your stomach?

7600 total

layin it out

1640 for rear arb and compressor with cryoed gears
2700 shipped for 5:1 lefty tcase, adapters, twinsticks, croyed shaft, and electro speed sensor.
740 shipped front diff with arb airlocker
335 shipped ARB safari snorkel
200 for front and rear driveshafts
400 for cvs, spindles and hubs.
1100 for installation of case and crossmember
210 for bbuilt crossmember
300 dollars for misc other stuff

but as you can tell, here is what he pointed out, with the added benefits of lockers and a 5:1 case, if he had traded, it would have been more money to trade then to convert if you had gotten a 4runner without a rear standard locker like I have.

if you look at it, he got the front diff with the locker already in it for the cost of an arb locker. try and beat that.

also the 5:1 case itself is 1700, so he really only payed 700 for it to be in 4wd.

tradin would have cost him 2000 dollars then he would only have a rear locker if that, it could have been open if nothing could have been found, then you look at the potential hazard of a lemon truck.

if you want to ask him, shoot him a pm over at ultimateyota.com

yes and no! yes as if the only wheels spinning on the open 4wd were the left or right side, but no that it cant get the front over something the rear isnt going to push it over.

Well, thats a little extreme. You can be a lot more sensible about it if you just want a standard 4wd conversion.

$400 or so for a 4wd trans and transfer
$150 for drive shafts
$400 maybe for front diff and CV's
$200 misc stuff

$1150. You dont NEED 5.1 t-case, dual arb's, and all that jazz.

But honestly, if you have to ask, then its probably going to cost you too much, since you will more than likely have to pay someone else to do the work, which will cost you an arm and a leg.

as much as i agree that its expensive, you have to remember his truck is an 01, 01 4wd trannies are a hell of a lot more money then a 96-2000 tranny, and yes theirs a difference.

i have an 00 and its 4wd, locked front and rear with elocker rear and arb up front. now saying you dont need arbs, if you are going to convert it to 4wd, its pointless not to go ahead and lock it while you are at it imo.

if you are going to do it once, do it right, may cost a lot, but do it anyways. hes done with his truck besides small things. his truck is more capable then 90% of the 3rd gen 4runners out there, including mine, that 5:1 puts him a huge step over me.

If you are in no hurry I will have everything to bolt up to your 4runner except the driveshafts and the transfer case because I will be doing a SAC in the near future and will have all of the guts for you...

It will be coming out of a 2000 SR5 4runner.

All of the components are factory and in good condition.

he needs manual hubs and non add, not ADD, only thing that will work is driveshafts, and your front diff, when he pulls the axle tube to a non add tube.
