I don't have much to add other than the stuff in your fan is insulation (you probably knew that). It's probably duct insulation and is falling off somewhere and getting stuck in the fan.
So, something that was previously insulated isn't anymore...

Insulation ??? I've never seen any insulation in any vehicle A/C or heating ducts

I would say a mouse pulled the insulation from under your carpet in your truck and put it in there trying to build a nest to stay warm for the winter.

Happens all the time around here in the winter.... West Virginia.

Yeah I hate Mice!! This has happened in a couple of vehicles of mine. I even found body parts in mine! I had a time cleaning it out, but I removed some of the plastic duct around the fan as well I even pulled the heater core out If I remember right. What a mess!

I just did mine. I was dissapointed to say the least. It had less dust on it than most of the ceiling fans in the house.

Would the loud humming noise that starts up when I turn my air on high be caused by this? If that's a stupid question don't dignify it with a response.

definitly could be; there may be something in there that is causing it to vibrate when it is spinning, (kinda like a washing machine off balance)

the humm is the magnets working to overcome the resistance caused by the dust/dirt build up on the bearings. Clean the fan well and put a little 3 in 1 [or similar light oil] on the bronze coloured bearings at either end of the fan motor and it should quiet right down.

I need to replace mine. Sometimes it squeels. I tried cleaning and lubing it but it didn't do anything.

Driving with the windows down or sunroof open gets things dusty fast.

Good luck... just remember a little oil will go a long way, too much and you'll have a dust magnet again that will just make a pile of mud that will eat the bearing and then you get the squeal that won't go away like a previous poster has...

when i took mine out i got cleaned it with the air compressor and then shot some liquid wrench silicone in there. It got quiet for a week. It used to stop squeeling if i threw it on high for a few seconds. Now when it squeels it wont stop. It usualy does it when it is real humid outside. hasnt squeeled in about a month now (knock on wood)

I wish that was all that is wrong with my A/C...somehow I doubt cleaning the fan will help my leaky pressurized line. Rest assured, I had it converted to R134, so the ozone layer will not melt over Northern California...if it does, it's not my fault.
