Anyone know of a good way to get rid of cigarette smell? I have used Tuff-stuff, Fabreeze, with only limited success. It smelled good for a few days, but then it comes back. Is the smell to embeded to get rid of? Thanks for any help.

Keep your windows down when you drive, if you can. Shampoo all your shizzle, if you can. Keep using Febreeze, etc. Eventually it will go away, unless someone smoked in your 4R for like years and years lol...then you'd be f****d, basically. It's a rough smell to get rid of.

 

Yeah, I bought it from this real estate lady, she probably smoked alot. I didnt really notice the smell until the next day. Go figure.
I will keep doing what you suggested.

I've had good luck with Febreeze on an older car. Just make sure you spray it EVERYWHERE. Carpet, seats, headliner, anywhere with fabric.

you can find it at sharper image, its a lillte airfresher like item that plufs into your cigarette lighter

 

Don't forget to shoot some air freshener in the intake of your vents. It's usually on the bottom of the floor near the transmission hump. Close the "outside air" switch and turn the fan on to circulate the air thru the vents.

 

:cry: You could rent a carpet cleaner with upholstry attachments.Pour some fabreeze or other deodorizer in with the cleaning solution.Do the floors,seats,anything with fabric.I use furniture polish(lemon) on all the vinyl.Or you could take it to a detail shop.Hope this helps!

 

Try putting a cup full of white vinager sit in your car overnight for the next few nights.

I learned that trick from my mom when I was younger. After a big party the as stuff was being cleaned a few small bowls of vinager would be set out to kill the odor.

Also when the weather is nice roll down all 5 windows and let the car (and you) breathe.

 

I'm a proud smoker but I don't smoke in closed areas (vehicle, house, etc). I bought my Taco used and they told me it had been smoked in - heavily. The dealership had sprayed some kind of deodorant into the cabin to remove the smell. I kid you not - it smells just like the blue fluid you find in porta-potties. Euwww!!! I cannot for the life of me get the odor out! Hell, I even smoke in it once in a while because I would rather it smell like that than a Honey Bucket!!!

The Toyota Certified program calls for the use of a machine called an "Ozone machine". Basically, it sucks out the smoke smell out of the vehicle. It takes (i believe) 24 hours or 8? can't remember exactly.

Go to your local Toyota used vehicle dept and ask to speak to someone who deals with reconditioning the Certified used vehicles. Then ask if they have an ozone machine or if they contract it out. Do whatever option is available to you.

it's called an ozone bomb. It's essentially an ozone fogger that you place in your vehicle w/ all the windows closed.

Do a google search for "ozone bomb" and you should come up with several options - I think one site is

the product they sell is an odor control fogger (about 7 bucks) - i recommended it to a roommate for getting the smoke smell outta his 4runner. Worked like a charm.

The only caveat is that this brand has an aftersmell of bubble gum - but it goes away and just smells clean afterward. It's just nice b/c it's cheap and works pretty well.

I read one guy had this same problem, and he used those laundry sheets you put in your clothes dryer. I think he keeps a whole box in his rig, he might even tuck one up front. Apparently it absorbs the oder. It at least works for him.

 

i smoke in my car and have that same smell. I got those air fresheners that clip to the vents and go inside them.....MMMMMMM Vanilla


Or you could put a box of baking soda in the intake.. j/k

 

The Japanese 4Runners come with them as an option!

 

A good way to get rid of a smell is to put a can of coffee grounds in in your 4runner. After a few days, it will smell great and take the old smell out.

I prefer Folgers.

 

not only that but it will help you get going in the morning too
