have you checked your grounds?? if you loose a ground to the maf it could be that easy. make sure to check all connections and grounds clean grease to prevent future corrosion and reset the ECM "disconnect battery 15 min" so that it has to relearn and what about the air filter?

Check the ground and its fine. Took the truck back to Aamco and they said to bring it back on monday so they can do a complete check on the truck. He said the o2 sensor hardly ever goes out and 99% of the time you get P0171 error code its the MAF sensor. So he doubts its the o2 sensor. What else could be causing this?

Try resetting the ecm then some times you need to do this so that it starts from scratch.

A problem with fuel delivery, like a clogged fuel filter or failing fuel pump. Nether are very common though.

Okay so heres the update.......Took my truck back to Aamco this morning and spoke with the mechanic that replaced the MAF sensor yesterday. I explained to him that the check engine light came back up and replacing that sensor didnt do anything but cost me money. So he said he would replace the o2 sensor and only charge me for the part and not the labor. 170 bucks later he replaced the o2 sensor the one located in front of the cat. I drove off there parking lot and 4 blocks later guess what? CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!!!! So at this point ive had it with them. I drove to a toyota dealer to check out the new tacomas but realized i cant afford 32K so then i drive back home and pop the hood open again and start going over all the air hoses, connections etc to make sure everything is properly installed. Didnt find anything.......But for some reason im looking at the supercharger and trying to figure out where the 7th injector gets installed as i been told it goes in the rear of the supercharger and realized that there was a nipple there that looked like it was missing a hose. So then I really start looking with a flashlight now and realized right below the rear of the supercharger is another nipple the same size that also looks like its missing a hose!!!! So i cut a piece (5 inches) of rubber 1/4 inch hose that i had in my garage and pluged each end into the nipples. Reset the light and BAM!!! No more check engine light!! Been driving around for 2 hours and still no sign of that evil check engine light! It was usually comming on 10 minutes after i would delete the error code with the OBDII. That must of been the problem. When i pressure washed the engine it must of disconnected that hose and fell between the firewall and engine. So I had 2 sensors replace which came out to over 200 bucks when the simple fix was the missing hose.

Lesson learned.....Dont go to Aamco!

See a mechanic can only do so much. They did the same exact thing you were going to do. Scan it and try replacing one of the things that was faulty. Except you paid double at first. 100.00 + 40.00 instead of 69.99. Thats why I say do what you were going to do. Scan it, ask around, get a second opinion and then do it yourself. Working on your own rig gets you familiar with it and helps you learn.

thats because u took it to a y mechanic. i am a mechanic and whole time ive been reading this ive been saying check vaccum check vaccum! sorry i didnt read sooner. Anytime u get a lean code u check for vaccum leaks first before anything. that mechanic should have known that, therfore he is y. ALSO if the MAF sensor was bad it would have two lean codes bank 1 and bank 2, most of time anyways. Raise ur hand if u dont know how to check for vaccum??? U get a 3 dollar can of carb cleaner and start spraying while engine running and listen for the idle change. U understand?

you spent 170 dollars on the thing, when all u need was carb cleaner.

oh and dailydriver guy u shouldn't really give advice to anyone anymore abt cars

You'll never see a lean code for bank 2 on these toyota trucks (p0174) because they don't have dual exhaust. To get a P0174 you'd have to have 4 O2 sensors like my BMW.

Thanks you guys for the help! Next time i know what to do

1. Check for vacuum leaks
2. Clean MAF Sensor
3. CLean o2 sensor
4. check fuel pump

But now that i have a new o2 sensor and a new maf sensor my question is........ When would my truck of needed these sensors anyways? I was reading somewhere that you should get a new o2 at around 100k miles anyways. WHat about the maf sensor?

So I spent 100 bucks extra on having someone do the exact same thing i was planning on doing but due to someones comment on this forum i felt like i would just be throwing money away by replacing things that were probably not bad. So the ""PRO"" i took it to did the exact same thing i was going to do :`(

mt goat- thats true didnt know if it had dual or not, but besides that my point was that a lean code doesnt always mean it needs MAF or 02s, U with me? plus i really didnt even know what kind of vehicle it was
