Quick question. The parts guy at toyota said the plugs were pre-gaped and would not need adjusting. Is he right?

 

i gapped them at .041 give or take. if i am not mistaken.. runs great, great gas mileage but at a stop light you feel some shakin goin on lol.. i seafoamed,new fuel filter and etc..

 

i would check them. mine were gapped at .032 or something like that, since ihave the v6 i had to re gap them to .041 or so

 

I usually just check them visually for damage and install as is, but it never hurts to check them. Most engines will still run fine with a gap that is smaller than recommended, but not vice versa......I always leave them a little tighter since the gap does grow over time and with use.

 

Here's the thing guy's. You can't go just by what engine you have. You also have to check with the plug manufacture to see what to set there plug gap to for your engine. If you go by your manual and you use the plugs Toyota recommends then you can set them at the gap they list in the manual.
I switched to Platinum NGK plugs and they have to be set to 0.32 for my 01, Tacoma, 2.7. If I used the regular NGK like the manual recommends then I would set them to 0.43. What I'm saying here and above is that you need to go by the manufactures recommendations if you use a different plug than the one Tacoma recommends. If you go to the NGK web site they will tell you what plugs to use and what to set them at for your engine if your unsure, Mike
