My driving style hasnt changed. Drove slow before and I drive slow now. I keep my aggression at the track.

I believe that works could be superstition...
Not only is this superstition it is, in fact, completely the opposite of the truth, with higher octane you are getting less power and lower mileage.

With my roof rack back on I am getting around 15 mpg and my dad's Range Rover gets 20 mpg and it has a V8! If I'm ever in my fiancee's MR2 though I will dog the hell out of it and she will STILL get 35 mpgs or upwards.

Well. i got a 98 SR5 4x4. Got about 100 pounds worth of subs and what not in the back all the time, and the truck is usualy clean the rest of the time. I drive semi-agressivley. I do drive the truck hard some days (rippin' it) and some days, i cruise. If i am just driving, i let the truck shift at 2,500 RPM (let off the gas a tiny bit so it changes gear, then keep accelerating).

I also got a Surf Board roof rack that i can't take off, but i still get 17.5 MPG ( i got the miles driven/gas put in and i always fill the tank competly and re-set the trip when i get gas)

If you think bout it though, I love getting 17 MPG. Sure i don't have a v-8, but i do have a capible 4x4 SUV that's good on and off-road, decent amount of powr for it's size. and hell, it's not a Car

Hmm, better check your timing and compression, could be way off.

I learned how to drive using my dad's '05 Acura TL (270 HP) and that made me start off on the wrong foot...gas giving, fast turns, and teenagers don't mix well together...but when I got my 4runner my driving style completely changed I just love going slow now and conserving my gas...actually i was not even planning on getting a 4runner. I was looking for a Integra or a 3000GT...weird how i ended up like this...

on an 88 3.slow im averaging around 15-16. I usually take it easy b/c i know it is an 18 yr old engine and doesnt like to be taken to 4500-5000 rpm every shift. Then when you think bout the engine, your mind goes to the tranny and how much heat and stress its going through. I get lucky if i get 225miles on a tank. The most i have ever gotten on 1 tank of gas before is 284.6 miles and pretty much all of them were on the interstate cruisin at 65mph. I think i got like 17 or 18 mpg on that weekend.

i came over from sport compacts so i was used to high revving, light weight, four bangers. i loved my integra, it was mildy modded, but i took care of it good and it never treated me wrong. i think when i got rid of it i was gettin like 32mpg, and was keeping up with cars with upwards of 20hp more. now with the 91 pickup i noticed when im not on the highway i drive much more conservativly. on the highway i still cruise at around 80, which would explain why my gas mileage is better in the city then on the highway, that and i tihnk my timing is off a tad bit.

so yes, with the truck i drive much slower, and i wouldnt say for the lack of power but more the lack of handling

Thats odd, i thought the lower the octain the more combustable and faster burning it is, as well as less effeciant. to where the higher the octain the slower and cleaner it burned making each cycle more effeciant. i think that stuff is all very insignifiant anyway, unless your pinging (pre-igniting)

I drive my 4runner really hard because no matter how hard I drive it I still get 20mpg and 24 if I baby it. When I drive my Riviera I usually drive slower because it only gets 8-11mpg. Now that I have a slow 4runner I am amazed at how I still ride peoples butts all the way up the onramp. My pet-peeve is people who get on the freeway at 40-50mph and force me to dodge the 18 wheeler coming up in the slow lane.
