Ceramic Brake Pads?

Ceramic Brake Pads?
I have a 93 2wd 4runner and I've heard multiple things about the ceramic brake pads, but I decided to hit it straight at the source. What are your guys' opinions on ceramic brake pads? Braking Power? Long lasting? Lemmie know, cya.

Ceramic pads meet or exceed all original equipment standards for durability, stopping distance and noise. According to durability tests, ceramic compounds extend brake life compared to most other semi-metallic and organic materials and outlast other premium pad materials by a significant margin – with no sacrifice in noise control, pad life or braking performance.

Not on the Yota, but I have ceramic pads on my Imprezaru, and I love them more every time I stop the car. I have done track days and insane speed mountain passes (The Dragon at Deal's Gap NC) multiple times on these pads and I love them. They are a little vague for that first stop of the day, but once even a little heat gets to them they are fine, and they have POSITVE fade charactoristics, i.e. the hotter they get, the better they work. Brake dust is almost non-existant too. In about 35k miles of use I have managed to wear them about 50%, so I'm pretty happy for my $40 investment.

Another characteristic that makes ceramic materials attractive is the absence of noticeable dust. All brake pads produce dust as they wear. The ingredients in ceramic compounds produce a light colored dust that is much less noticeable and less likely to stick to the wheels.
This is quite an improvement over organic and semi-metallic brake materials that typically sacrifice pad life to reduce noise, or vice versa.

I'm surprised to hear that. I had semi-metallic pads on my T100 that sqeaked like crazy, even though they were pretty new. I bought a set of ceramic brake pads from Advanced Auto and like magic the sqeak is gone. I've put about 2K miles on the ceramic pads so far. The stopping power is great and I don't notice hardly and brake dust.

I don't believe ceramic were getting up to their designed operating temperature on the 4Runner. The brakes are well sized and run fairly cool, as indicated by many getting 80k+ miles on a set of OEM pads. They did feel better than OEM pads.

rotors and pads
Installing new Brembo rotors and ceramic pads this week. I have TRD pads on stock rotors and have 102K miles on the rotors - turned them twice for warpage issues. Anyone have a procedure for changing rotors?

There is this stuff you can buy at any auto part store that you put on the back of the pads before you install them in the caliper. It suppose to stop the squealing. Its kinda like high temp silicone. I don't know what its called exactly.

I love mine too!! I would never run anything else!! I'm running Ceramics with the Tundra set-up on my 4Runner, I get awesome breaking performance, and as the ceramics heat up they grab even more, and yes they are low dust pads, and the dust does not etch your wheels
The shoes on the drums pretty much never have to be touched, unless you run into axle seal issues, every time you use your E-brake it adjusts your shoes. They have a slow wear rate, A set of shoes will last a good 5 years under normal drive'n conditions on our trucks!!
