Center Console Ammo Can

I've been wanting a bigger/better center console for my taco so I decided a 20mm ammo can would be good enough.

Started off with a 20mm ammo can, drilled some mounting holes in the bottom and added some u bolts to it for a way to look the can.

Here is where its going

added some switches for further electrical expansion with the truck

Here it is installed, took no time to make this

That is one big freaking center console
I used a 50 cal for mine..
Just a suggestion is to get some vinyl, foam padding and make yourself a padded lid, maybe staple the vinyl to a sheet of 1/4" plywood and attach that to the lid (screwed down from the under of the lid).
Hitting your elbow on these things can give you a good '''ouuuuuch" dinged my self a few times with ammo cans on the center console of Humvees

I wanted a large enough storage space so I can put everything valuable in their and be able to lock it when I get around to making tube doors.

Im using little tupperware containers right now to organize the console and I have 3 cig outlets in the console, and a power inverter too.

With my height it makes a perfect arm rest for it, and the only reason to add something to the lid is the heat that the console can create, it can get hooooottttt. I've already dinged my elbow a couple of times.

Thumbs up

Good job! Was thinking of doing the same thing on mine since I went from bench to buckets and mine is a column shift auto. Also would fit well with my 'paramilitary theme'.

for my son's 1st gen 4runer, we got a Night Vision Goggles box. Fits between the seats without any modifications....and it's tall enough to have a nice arm-rest.

i'll have to find a pic. it's not installed yet

EDIT: for pics

I need to find some 20 mike mike cans to bring home and use on my roof rack. Maybe ones for the 40mm. I know we got a bunch of them.
