I had a a creative idea for mounting a cb antenna...

I was thinking of putting it right in the middle of the bumper... some trucks (not mine) already have holes there and people mount tow balls there. I was going to dirll a hole and mount the antenna through there.

A few questions....
first, is this legal to put it in front the license plate... (WA, OR, CA)?? (people put tow balls there all the time?)

Second, will I get decent reception if I put a 2ft antenna there and it does not stick over the top of the tailgate?

 

are you going to take it off to open your tailgate?

i was told that you want just over half, of the antenna, over the roof, was told by a CB place that has been in the same location for about 20years, but,,, that doesnt mean that the guy telling me that, knows what he is talking about.
someone will chime in that knows what they are talking about.

 

ya, i would take it off to lower the tailgate.... i wont use the cb a whole lot, only on long trips... home to school (CA to WA) and camping drives.... i dont need it day to day.

 

is it legal is my main question?? anybody?
