Phew....that's good to know. This is my first loss for this kind of stuff. Yea, whenever I get a chance, I am going to talk to my insurance company and ask them about that specifically. Supposedly, it is going around ALOT because my insurance lady told me that some guy in So. Cal got his cat. converter ripped off as well, ten minutes after I called to report mine.
Yea, I am thinking about it. When it happened, I was going to bring it to David, (toytech76, he is on this forum) But the only problem with that is, he is pretty far from my residence, about 40 miles and I didn't wanna get raped from the towing charges. The dude that literally ripped my cat must have been a rookie because he didn't cut the pipes cleanly so that at least I could re-use the stock piping. No no no, he used some sort of a clamp and mangled everything down there. As for parts, I am looking at a new cat, muffler, piping, and the rear O2 or A/F sensor. Then there is the labor so I could see this adding up but $3200 seems a little high for me. Anyway, it's at Maita Toyota now. By the way, anyone on this forum in the Sacramento area worked with Maitas service department before? I buy parts from them when I do my own maintenance but haven't dealt with them SERVICE wise. Any input would be highly appreciated.

HOLY DANG! $3200 for fixing that?
I priced out a WHOLE NEW exahust setup for my truck a few months ago, this is the works and even going ot dual tips out the back and some other custom work.
Total cost for all of that including a cat and muffler?
$400
Needless to say, you need to shop around some. Though use that quote to get the check from your insurance first, after you get it then shop around and use the $$$ that is left over to get a lift or soemthing.

Can you do that??? Any legal issues??? Also, that means that I would have to pay for the towing charges from the dealer to another shop, right? How much does the towing cost for about 40 to 50 miles. Thanks.

Look at this: https://2274993133.monstercommercesi...n=Custom&ID=41
Those are still cheap and say they are approved by the feds.
As for the towing, why cant you drive it? from what i have heard you can still drive it without a cat, it is just loud as heck. Thats what i will be doing when i get my headers welded to my exahust, put them on here and drive to the shop sounding like a nascar.
But maybe i heard wrong.

Dang, they must either not have a security guard or he is now fired!
Ouch, that will cost them, imainge when they found out about this problem by starting a car for a buyer and it sounds like a top fuel dragster!

Went out of town this past weekend, left my 97 Limited 4Runner in our church's parking lot (beach retreat for our college group) - came back Sunday afternoon and the cat had been cut off. Another friend lost his too, drives a 2003 Tacoma. Any thoughts on running a straight pipe short term, till I have the funds to fully replace it? Any other aftermarket options that are good (Dynomax, Flowmaster, Borla)?

have you all seen the new tool they have at harbor freight. its an exaust cutter completely hand held and silent! its funny how people make things that help crooks steal. so now they dont need a loud saw or sawzaw just a little pocket sized cutter they said it take 30 seconds for it to cut through the pipe... we should put an alarm on them or GPS... lol

I chased my neighbors cat around with a salmon net and a burlap sack, there has to be atleast 10 cats in my neighborhood and they all try and live in my new boat. i could sell them all for like $200 and buy a boat cover!

Dude at work sent an e-mail about a month ago about his cat. being hacked off on his 2nd gen 4runner. We had 4 separate office buildings and between each one are parking spots. He was walking from 1 building to another for a meeting and heard a sawing sound and didn't think much of it. Then an alarm goes off and he noticed it was his 4runner. He walks over and sees this guy pull out from bottom of his runner, take off and jump into a GMC Jimmy.
This was in the middle of the day between 2 office buildings and lots of feet traffic. Crazy .

Which cat is being stolen? 1st or 2nd one? I was looking around under there today to see what can be rigged up to protect it.
It looks like the 1st one would be very difficult to saw off from the engine side. Tight space.
