Cat Heat Shield

Cat Heat Shield
I was under my rig the other day changing my diff fluids and noticed my cat heat shield has rusted out where the screws go in. Only 2 screws holding it in place now. Can I just go buy a heat shield for the stealer or just take it off? Any ideas are appreciated.

I'd recommend buying another one if you can get it bolted on properly. It gets pretty hot there and if you ever park on dry grass in the summer at a park or out in the woods, possibly with tall grass, that's all it takes to get an out of control fire going under your rig. Your rig would not be pleased. Not to mention the firefighters coming out to hose the blaze. Granted the chances are slim of all of this happening, I'd still replace rather than remove.
Or get a 6" suspension lift and your rig would be too high up to start any fires with or without the heat shield. <GRIN>

only 6 inches??? hahaha... I would be able to park over small trees
I just hope the dealership will sell the heat shield, and not a whole package I would have to buy.

Mine is currently held on with two big hose clamps. These will last a couple of years. After that, from the exhaust heat and the road salt (in Pgh), the clamps rust and gets weak. You'll know the clamps are shot when you get a rattle. Replacements are cheap - only a couple of bucks..
