I dont think that is right. Now maybee if im sitting at a light will all theses things on the engine would have to work alittle harder because the alternator is not turning as fast at idle.

Im not sure what is in an alternator but I think the faster it spins the more power it will make but that is limited the the engine rpms . What inside the alternator can cause it to increase resistance

I dunno maybee Im wrong , I have been known to be wrong once or twice

You're close, but the fact is that as the alternator spins, it is working against an electromagnetic field, like trying to push two magnets together.

Try this: take an electric motor, with the two wires sticking out and not attached to each other, try spinning the shaft. It's easy, because there is only some slight frictional resistance. Now, hold the two wires together and try to spin the output shaft. There will be a significant amount of resistance compared to before.

Viola! Proof of a brand spanking new concept!

Another: loosen the belt on your alternator and then turn on your engine (not too much, the belt should stay on, I take no responsibility for damaged what-not). Turn on a few accessories, headlights radio etc., and rev the engine. The alternator belt will squeak like crazy and slip, because it takes work to turn the alternator. THIS is my you must keep the belt tight, because it takes work to turn the alternator.
