Can I remove CA emissions?
I am new to the forum, but have had a few toyotas in the past. I just picked up a '96 tacoma originally from CA with just over 110k, I happen to live in upstate NY. The truck has a cracked manifold, which I knew going into the sale, just didn't know it was from CA until I saw the frame/body and realized it was too clean for this area. My question is, can I remove all the CA emission stuff or do I have to keep it and get a CA legal manifold? Thanks for any help.

This will be key to any performance mods you attempt as you may still be required to pass local/state emissions laws. Some of the California emission laws are more strigent then in most states so leaving them in place is to your advantage. Check closely as to what is required on your vehicle for registering in New York. good luck!

I guess I meant to ask, what are the real differences? I plan on keeping it legal, just didn't know if I could get a 49 state legal manifold or if I had to get a CA version. Most of the manifolds I have found are not for CA, so I was thinking I could just get one of those since I don't live there. I looked under the truck and was expecting to see 2 cats since I thought I read in some other posts that CA had 2 cats. Does anyone from CA and other states have pics of their undersides so I could could compare to see if mine has been altered? Thanks!
